วันวิสาขบูชา เป็นวันสำคัญสากลทางพระพุทธศาสนา สำหรับชาวพุทธทุกนิกายทั่วโลก และวันวิสาขบูชายังเป็นวันคล้ายวันที่เกิดเหตุการณ์สำคัญที่สุดในพระพุทธศาสนา 3 เหตุการณ์ ได้แก่ การประสูติ ตรัสรู้ และปรินิพพาน ซึ่งทั้ง 3 เหตุการณ์นี้ได้เกิดขึ้นตรงกัน ณ วันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือน 6 หรือวันเพ็ญแห่งเดือนวิสาขะ (ต่างปีกัน) ชาวพุทธจึงถือว่าเป็นวันที่รวมการเกิดเหตุการณ์อันน่าอัศจรรย์ยิ่ง และเรียกการบูชาในวันนี้ว่า วิสาขบูชา ย่อมาจาก วิสาขปุรณมีบูชา หมายถึง การบูชาในวันเพ็ญเดือนวิสาขะ

Visakha Bucha Day, the first full moon in the fourth month of the lunar calendar, is the most important festival of the Buddhists and is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Visakha Bucha has special significance because this day commemorates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha.
